NEWSFLASH! Norwich Regional Cancelled!

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that the Norwich regional on July 8th at our Sloughbottom Park home has had to be cancelled. The large amount of persistent rain fall over the last few weeks has severely damaged the track and with the weather also looking bad for this weekend there is just not going to be enough time to fix the track ready for the event.

It has been agreed that the event will not be re-scheduled.

For those of you competing in the regional series this cancellation now makes it a 9 event series.
To gain an end season ranking you now need to race 5 of 9 rounds.
To receive an end of series trophy you need to race 5 of 9 events
To qualify for the British Championships you now need to race 4 from 9

As for the track itself…
It has suffered pretty badly from erosion caused by the rain. In the short term we will be patching the track up every evening weather permitting, starting from Monday next week and also at the weekend (any help would be appreciated).
Long term we will be installing the much talked about tarmac berms. This should hopefully happen in around two months time.
Together with our partners at Norwich City Council we are also looking into a solution for our ever increasing stone problem. More news on this when it happens.

Next event at Sloughbottom park?
If all the improvements have been finished we have been promised the 1st winter regional this year.

Anyway my apologies once again for having to cancel the event, but in the interests of safety we really had no choice.

NEWSFLASH! Missing National officially lost.

It has been decided that the second of the two nationals lost at this years doomed Bournemouth doubleheader is not to be replaced. The last two nationals at Coppull and Tredegare will run as originally planned with Coppull having a No Clips event on the Saturday evening and Tredegare being the last national will feature doublepoints!
National rankings will now be taken from the your best 4 of six races, not 5 of 7 as originally planned.
Lets hope it stays dry for the rest of the series!

Race Report: Peterborough Nationals 3&4

With round 3 on Saturday and round 4 on Sunday, Peterborough was sure going to be one busy and exciting weekend. Add to that, Jamie Staff making a surprise return plus Kelvin Batey in his first 07 national, coupled with the USA’s newest AA Pro superstar Joey “bike skills” Bradford, the Elite Class was about to go OFF!
And if that wasn’t enough our very own Addie Warden was on the mic for the event ably assisted by a helium balloon!

Day 1 -Rain again!

Jake Cheetham
Competing in two classes on probably the longest track in the country isn’t easy but the younger of the two Cheetham brothers put in solid performances all day long. 2nd in the 15-16 males B final and 6th in cruiser all accomplished with the usual Cheetham smoothness!

Josh Cheetham
Business like as usual, Josh smooothed his way to third place in an extremely tough junior men class.

Rebecca Vaughan
A big bad crash into the tarmac of berm 1 saw Becca break her second helmet in two weeks! Steely determination see’s her fight back, taking an incredible 3rd place in only her 2nd junior female final.

Abi Hill
Moto1 1st Moto 2 1st Moto 3 1st Final 1st Total domination of the ladies 25+ !

Jay Mills
Once again makes the main event with ease and takes 7th place. A definite contender for most improved rider of the season.

Steve Williams
Looking good in his moto’s and winning his semi, is national win #2 on? Come the final he leads into turns 1 and 2 but the old legs fail in the third straight letting a jubilant Dave Ives through for the win.

Alan Hill
Heroics from Hilly who manages to make probably the most heavily stacked elite main at a British national for many a year. Kelvin has determination and Joey B shows bike skills from the Gods but its Jamie’s incredible first straight that wins the day.

Race Report: Peterborough Round 5 4/7/2007 . Domination by both Young & Old !

Apologies as I don’t currently have access to the notes I made at the race so this comes from the top of my head…
With the sun at last shining after the misery of last week’s rain at Bournemouth, Peterborough held the 5th round of the east anglia summer series with 150+ riders attending.

6 and under boys.
Mason Parkins laid waste to all opposition, winning all his qualifying races on the way to winning his final by a country mile . He also rode off with the Rider of the day trophy. Awesome display of speed n’ style by one so young.

Male 8yrs.
Dane Parkins takes a determined 5th place, whilst in only his second regional event Daniel Swindles impresses in the B final and looks likely to make his first A final at the next round.

30-39 cruiser class.
Tim Gregory matches Mason’s achievement (results wise if not with quite as much style!) by going unbeaten all day . It was no easy victory though with fellow old schooler Andy Restall from Bulwell Outlaws pushing him hard all the way for 2nd place.

17+/ masterclass.
8 Norwich riders entered this class but a series of bad luck, previous injury’s and unfortunate crashes saw only one Flyer qualify for the A final. Ben Osborne had spectacular crash in the 17+ run off that left his elbow and back painfully grazed. Josh Cheetham came to grief in his semi final and was too battered to be able to ride his final whist Brother Jake had a very heavy spill on the new second straight that left him dazed and hurting. Our only rider left once the A final came round was Alan Hill. “Hilly did Norwich proud as usual to lead the race from start to finish.

A big thank you goes out to all at P’boro for a very enjoyable and exciting ( if rather painful for some ) days racing, the new second straight works a treat. Roll on the national!

NEWSFLASH! Replacement National #1 Confirmed

This has Just arrived from BC HQ…

Due to the cancelled double header at Bournemouth last weekend, the first of two replacement nationals have been set. Peterborough national will now host rounds 3 and 4. Round 3 will take place from Saturday afternoon and in to the evening. This means that the practice schedule will move forward 3 hours. Sunday’s schedule will remain the same.
The 2nd replacement round is yet to be secured, but the initial intention is to stick to the existing calendar of weekends. The option of putting on a replacement event on a new weekend is possible, but not without upsetting another region’s calendar. Due to the proposed “Autumn National Series” and clashes, keeping to the existing announced weekends was considered to be the favoured option by the majority.
Thanks to Peterborough Phantoms for stepping up and enthusiastically offering their services. Thanks also to the officials team, Bolsover support truck team and the medics for changing plans at late notice. For those not used to Euro style double weekends on long tracks, I suggest you get to bed early on Friday and Saturday, keep off the pop and go easy in practice.
My apologies to anyone inconvenienced by the new schedule.
