Newsflash! Norwich Go P.T. Random!

Ahead of 2008 British Cycling National BMX event criteria, Norwich Flyers have had a random Gate upgrade installed into our Phaze Projects (P.T.) start gate system.

Whats a random gate?
After the “riders ready, watch the gate” command the gate used to fall at exactly the same specified time, EVERY time.
With the new random system the gate can fall at at ANYTIME between 0 .00 and 2.5 seconds after the command.
As well as testing a riders reactions the system also stops the controversial “slingshot” starting technique.
Think you can outguess the gate?
Think again! The system has 60,000 different timing combinations!

Here’s a clip of a random gate in action.

Random tips n tricks..
O.K We are all still new to this system but those of us that have already tried it out have found..
1) Stay Calm! If you start to get nervous you will become tense which will slow your reaction time down.
2)Balance. Make sure you are properly balanced on your bike other wise the above will quickly occur.
3)Lights. Those of us that used to just listen to the “beeps” are generally finding it more effective to watch the lights instead.
4)Be Ready.Remember the gate can go at ANYTIME ! The earlier gates seem to catch everybody out!

A Massive Thank you to Phil Townsend for manufacturing and supplying the system. We’re all P.T fans here!

Newsflash! The Flyer’s First Olympic Gold Medalist…

Well maybe, but not until at least the 2020 games!

Norwich Flyer’s youngest rider Kyle Hill made his racing debut at the Midlands Champs held at Mansfield earlier this month. Although not yet 4 years old, Kyle took on much older veterans of the sport (the mighty 6 year old and unders!) and impressed everyone with his performance. By the very next weekend Kyle “stepped his game up” to national level competing in the Peterborough autumn national. Some of the P’boro jumps can be a handful for even the most experienced rider, but Kyle managed to conquer them (even if he did need a helpful push from the rugged looking Marshall in the photo!:)

Kyle is of course the son of Alan & Abi Hill, two of the Flyer’s most successful & popular riders and both totally BMX racin’ nutz! With Dad being a former double European Champion and currently World #4 plus Mum being current world #5, Kyle not only has the benefit of two fantastic parents but also a BMX pedigree second to none! So the best of luck to Kyle for the rest of his racing career, greatness it would seem is already assured.
